Evolution to giant containerships as Madrid Maersk

16 Jun 2017

Giants of the sea

Since the new alliances were formed, the shipping lines have very large containerships at their disposal.

This new trend is clearly visible in Europe where the vessel Madrid Maersk (214.288 ton and 20.568 TEU) has recently visited the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam.

The previous record was for the vessel MOL Triumph with a loading capacity of 20.150 TEU.

But by the end of this month the largest containervessel of the world OOCL HongKong – with a loading capacity of 21.413 TEU – will again break this record by visiting the port of Rotterdam.
The OOCL HongKong is 400 m long and no less than 59 m wide.
