It has already been more than a year since the VGM regulation came into effect.
Carriers need a VGM for each container that will be loaded on board of a vessel. No VGM means no shipping! Every shipper needs to determine his method for calculating the VGM (Verified Gross Weight). This can be done in 2 ways, as written below.
Method 1: The weight of a loaded container will be verified by weighing the container on a certified and calibrated platform scale/weigh bridge.
Method 2: The weight of all separate items (goods, packing materials, stevedoring materials) and the tare weight of the container will be verified.
