General Preference Code (GPC)

The General Preference Code is a 3-digit code that is added to the statistics code upon clearance. Usually in aid of developing nations, certain countries are given preferential treatment when it comes to the height of import duties. In order to qualify for this, the importer must be able to substantiate the origin of the goods by submitting a certificate of origin. Combined with the preferential code, this will determine the duties levied.
